Therapy Style

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I provide a safe therapeutic environment with a focus on developing lifelong skills. Working together, we will formulate attainable goals and strive towards greater self-acceptance. I will invite you to work with a kind curiosity on the journey of self-discovery.

My theoretical orientation is primarily through a humanistic lens using strength-based and solution-focused interventions. I believe every individual has specific needs that can be tailored in a collaborative process through treatment. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my treatment plan, as well as aspects of Psychodynamic Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness. I specialize in anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and relationship issues. I have experience working with veterans, children, families, adolescents, and adults struggling with substance abuse.

Why did you become a mental health professional?

My initial motivation to become a mental health professional was because I had the most fantastic school therapist in high school. She was warm, easy to talk to, and truly helped me through something I was going through. She is my inspiration to this day.

What are your interests outside of work?

I enjoy cooking, hiking, spending time with my dog, gardening, and relaxing at home.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Exercise – either doing a work out, yoga, or taking my dog on a walk.

What book have you read more than once?

The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk- because it is so important to the work I do/have done. I have read it at different stages of my career and first in graduate school. Every time I read it, I get something new and different out of it. It is always enlightening.

How do you recharge?

I recharge by reflecting on what I need. Most often, it is to have a quiet night at home watching TV or doing one of my hobbies. Spending time with friends and family can also help me recharge.
