Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health therapist because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. I wanted to be able to give back to my community, as well as others who may be struggling with depression/anxiety, etc. I grew up in a community where there was a lack of mental health resources, and I wanted those is need to have access to mental health clinicians. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in order to increase access to services, specifically access to Latin/Hispanic mental health therapists.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love to spend time with my family, and closest friends. I enjoy working out and traveling outside of work as well. I love new experiences, and getting to know new places.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I work out on a daily basis. Whether that is strength training and/or cardio, I try to do my best to stay consistent in order to support my mental health.

What book have you read more than once?

I almost finished this book again, but I have not had the chance to, however Veronika Decides To Die is a book about a young girl who ends up at a hospital due to overdosing and she rethinks the way her life is lived because she only has a few days to live. I really try to practice mindfulness myself and take it a day at a time. I teach my clients this and I practice it in my own life as well.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Any organization that helps immigrant parents and immigrant children in any way. My parents were immigrants from Mexico, I am first generation Mexican-American. I know what it's like to have immigrant parents, the stress that it may bring, whether it is financially, physically and/or mentally. I have a special place in my heart for immigrant children, because I am a product of two immigrant adults who came to America to provide a better life for themselves and their children.

How do you recharge?

I recharge by practicing self-care, traveling, and spending time with my fiancé and friends.

Do you have any pets?

I have a French Bulldog, she is 7 years old. I do not necessarily have only one pet story, but my dog makes me laugh/smile everyday. She is a such a character, and she is full of energy! Whether it's her daily "zoomies" around my house or the way she plays, she is always keeping a smile on my face.
