Therapy Style

I use an eclectic style that I have formed over many years of working with adults and children experiencing health traumas and family transitions through foster care, etc. I often start with crisis intervention and prioritize starting where the client is. I provide feedback and suggestions and motivational interviewing. I also have experience working with harm reduction models for substance abuse intervention. I often use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients with self-esteem, shame, and PTSD symptoms.

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I decided to be a social worker to give back. I had grown up living inner city with a single mother in Oakland. My mother and I got help from others along the way and it was important to me to be a part of the ongoing solution to help individuals find their own success. I know life can be difficult and we all need someone to help inspire us at times.

What are your interests outside of work?

I have loved to paint and do art since I was a little kid. I currently have a full art studio in my office and do art therapy with many of my clients. I am working on a therapeutic children's book and a calming crafts book.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

My office is across the street from the Sacramento LGBTQ center and I really value the programming they offer to our community. I grew up in the Bay Area and always had friends and family in the LGBTQ community. Currently, I have many clients who are also a part of the LGBTQ community.
