My Therapy Style

I established my private practice in 2013 with the intention of creating a safe space for clients. My goal is to provide person-centered counseling in a non-judgmental, supportive environment. I have a deep respect for meeting clients where they are on their path and pacing therapy according to client needs. Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

Prior to becoming a mental health professional I had a 25 year career in the law enforcement field, primarily as an advocate for crime victims. I worked with people who had unexpected events turn their lives upside down and was humbled to be part of the process of helping them put the pieces back together. I was consistently inspired by the strength and resilience shown by people and wanted to continue the work of being in a helping role. Becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor was a natural extension of my career.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love the outdoors and am an avid hiker and bird watcher. I enjoy tennis, kayaking, and being in my garden. Indoors I enjoy sewing, quilting, knitting, and painting. Traveling the world and being exposed to different cultures has been a lifelong passion.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Every day that I spend with my family and my pets reinforces my mental and emotional well-being. They ground me and make me feel centered.

What book have you read more than once?

As a teen I re-read Sacajawea, a long novel about the Lewis and Clark expedition and the Native woman who guided them. I loved the strong female character she was and enjoyed learning about the lifestyles and histories of various Native tribes.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

An organization nearest to my heart is the Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm. It is a farm community that grows organic produce with sustainable farming practices. Far beyond just supplying wholesome food, it is a group of like-minded individuals with a deep passion for the earth, nature and health.

How do you recharge?

Any time I feel stressed, overwhelmed or depleted, stepping out into nature restores me. Being outdoors reminds me of the vastness of the universe and helps me regain perspective.

Do you have any pets?

I have two indoor cats, Weezil and Woodstock. A third cat, Jackie Mango, is a little feral kitty who came out of the woods 11 years ago and has lived on my front porch ever since. Over the years, she has become tame enough to hang out with me when I am outdoors enjoying the porch. She amazed me one day by chasing away a fox who dared to set foot on her territory.
