My main goal is for the client to see how amazing they are and to not live or see life through a critical, distorted lens.

My Therapy Style

I have worked in the mental health industry for 20-plus years. I use Solution-focused Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy and find that using these modalities allows myself and the client to get to the bottom of their challenges and find their best self.

My main goal is for the client to see how amazing they are and to not live or see life through a critical, distorted lens. Life can be a challenge but you are worth the work.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I found a need to provide excellent care therapy to the African American community. When I started my journey in 1996, I did not see therapist that represented my community and wanted to make a difference in breaking barriers so that more African American could and would seek treatment with my presence as a provider.

What are your interests outside of work?

I enjoy equestrian riding, gardening, cooking, getting together with friends, decorating (rehabbing old houses), walking, listening to music, and traveling.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I maintain a healthy diet mostly plant based, exercise by walking several miles a day, spending time with supportive family/friends/ animals, and practice self-care/pampering.

What book have you read more than once?

I love the series by Jan Karon. Her book At Home In Mitford is one of my favorites. The details and lives of the individuals located in North Carolina brings back wonderful memories of when I lived there. There is something so soothing and heartwarming about Jan's stories that allow me to relax and feel so peaceful. Her books allow me to escape and transport back to a place that I loved.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

I tend to support agencies that care for animals and children for they are the most vulnerable and children are our future. Dresses for Africa and World Vision are two that I support.

How do you recharge?

Humor, talking with friends and family, and traveling

Do you have any pets?

I have two cats, brother and sister that we rescued. I am a horse gal by nature, I have ridden since i was a child. I had a Jack Russel terrier named Miles Davis that was amazing with everyone and extremely smart. When the mailman would arrive in front of my house with his mail truck Miles with jump in and they would deliver the mail to neighbors. The mailman would bring Miles back after the route was finished and Miles would always return with a milk bone wagging his tail.
