My Therapy Style

I take a person-centered approach to therapy, and am warm, interactive, and engaged. As a practicing therapist for 20 years, I have never stopped admiring the courage and strength it takes to seek help, become aware, and illicit change. I like to meet people where they are, identify treatment goals, and help people succeed in making the changes necessary to feel confident, fulfilled, and at peace. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgement space so people feel comfortable opening up and seeking help. I utilize many different therapeutic approaches based on what works best for the person seeking therapy and believe therapy works best when the individual is engaged in their own treatment and progress.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I feel like becoming a mental health professional was second nature. I was always drawn to people and quickly became a "listening ear" to many, so it seemed like a natural progression to go into the mental health field and complete my formal education and training. I enjoy people and love watching the growth that can occur as an individual seeks change.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love the beach. I am very family oriented, so I love spending time with my family. I enjoy traveling and love a great conversation and building relationships. I like to read and enjoy some downtime.

How do you recharge?

One of my favorite ways to recharge is at the beach. Feeling the sun on my skin, listening to and watching the waves, feeling the sand on my feet with a light breeze will always revive me. If I cannot make it to the beach, any place involving warmth, sun, and nature will do the trick.

Do you have any pets?

I have had animals all my life. I was raised with both dogs and cats and I raised my own children that way, they were animal lovers. As a result, we have had a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, frogs, hermit crabs, and one of my all time favorites, hedgehogs! I'm a "cat person" by nature and love any snuggly pet. Our cat, "Bentley" loves to lay on the floor and scoop each piece of food from his bowl with his paw and eat one kernel at a time. He loved our hedgehogs and was so gentle and kind with them. One of my favorite pet moments was watching Bentley carefully guard our hedgies as they ran across the grass in our backyard exploring.
